Nomorobo Announces $5/Month Robocall-Blocking App For Mobile Phones

If you’re plagued with marketing robocalls on your Android or iOS mobile phone, some relief might be coming soon. This afternoon, the makers of call filter Nomorobo announced that they’re introducing a mobile app for the two dominant smartphone operating systems to block robocalls. The bad news: it’s not free to users.

mockup4Nomorobo is currently available for some voice over IP platforms, including the very popular landline phone options from Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS. I’m a user, and it makes having a landline much less disruptive. Today, they announced the beta test of the smartphone version of their service, which will cost $4.99 per month after a two-week free trial. Is that worth the cost? That probably depends on how many robocalls you receive.

Of course, the ideal solution would be for mobile phone providers to subsidize subscriptions to services like Nomorobo in bulk. Perhaps that’s coming, once phone company executives finally figure out that they don’t need Federal Communications Commission approval to do so.
