Is it too much for you to handle utensils in the morning? Sonic Drive-In thinks it has the answer in the form of a blast from the past: the chain is bringing back its previously popular “Pancake on a Stick” to restaurant menus this fall.
Perhaps in an attempt to surf the breakfast wave McDonald’s has been riding lately, Sonic’s CEO Cliff Hudson tells Business Insider that the morning mashup is set for a comeback. The menu item was first sold in 2002, and features a pancake wrapped around a sausage, and then stuck onto a stick.

Pancake on a Stick had many fans, BI notes, but the menu item disappeared from menus a few years after it first debuted.
Last year Hudson said he wasn’t at all concerned about McDonald’s entrance into the all-day breakfast arena, mostly because Sonic’s entire menu is served all day.
“They are doing breakfast all-day, but we’ve been doing all menu all-day forever, so this was not a big deal to us,” he said at the time.
But the return of the POAS may mean Sonic is ready to get serious about grabbing some more of those breakfast dollars.
