Remember the days when social media apps were all totally different? Neither do we. To that end, there are some rumors floating around that Instagram is taking a page from parent company Facebook’s playbook with tests of a new live video feature.
A report on a Russian news site T Journal shows the live feature embedded within Instagram’s recently-launched “Stories” function, The Verge reports, emblazoned with a “LIVE” banner.
There’s also a user interface for accessing the live feature with a big red button proclaiming, “Go Insta!”
Instagram declined to comment to The Verge, but it wouldn’t be a huge leap of faith to think it could happen: the rumor mill has been steadily churning for more than a year with gossip that Instagram would eventually add live video.
It makes sense from a revenue standpoint as well, as advertisers would likely be willing to pay for their bands to appear in a dedicated live video area within the app.
