When a common food ingredient like flour or black pepper might be contaminated with a pathogen that can make people sick, it gives us extra insight into how complex and intertwined the modern food production system is. For example, thanks to the Great Powdered Milk Recall of 2016, we’re learning how many different kinds of products use the same product from the same potentially salmonella-contaminated source.
Here are some new products to add to the list, in addition to the pancake mixes and mac and cheese that we already knew about:
New Hope Mills Crepe Mix
Product: 20-ounce brown paper bag; look for “best by” dates of 07/19/17 and 09/15/17.
Instructions: Return to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions can email QA@newhopemills.com or call 315-252-2676.
Old Dutch, Roundy’s, Lund’s, Byerly’s, and Urge Potato and Tortilla Chips
Products: Various sizes, flavors and brands of snack chips that contain the potentially contaminated milk powder. Old Dutch manufactures for other brands, meaning that the list of recalled items is long and complex.
Instructions: Discard the product and contact Old Dutch at 877-228-2273.
Ron’s Home Style Foods Fruit Cremes
Products: Pistachio, pineapple, and tropical fruit salads sold under the brand names Ron’s Home Style Foods, Golden Harvest, Texas Kitchen Salads, and Brookshire’s.
Instructions: Return to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have any questions, call 800-856-3131.
