Comcast Apologizes For Tech Crew Whose Truck May Have Caused Multiple Accidents

Earlier today, we told you about the Comcast tech crew in Indiana that was recorded showing an apparent disregard for the many drivers who ran off the road or collided while trying to get around a Comcast repair truck parked in the street. Now, Comcast HQ is issuing an “our bad” and promising to use this latest PR debacle as a teachable situation for its employees to prevent future incidents.

In a statement emailed to Consumerist — and now posted on the official Comcast corporate site — Ed Marchetti, the Senior VP of Technical Operations for Comcast Cable, admits to being “very concerned” about the behavior shown in the video.

“Our employees should always protect people and treat them with respect no matter what the situation,” says Marchetti. “Safety matters most – especially in dangerous weather conditions like this.”

Marchetti claims the company is actively investigating the incident, which was itself started when a truck ran off the road earlier in the day and slammed into a Comcast node, taking out cable, internet, and phone service for customers in the area.

Comcast sources maintain to Consumerist that company employees go through the proper training to handle these sorts of situation, and that Comcast is talking directly to the techs involved. The cable giant is also going to reach out to local man who shot the video footage and the drivers directly affected by the techs’ bad decision to park in the road without taking proper precautions.

“Within the next 24-48 hours, my team leaders will meet with our technicians across our company to use this as an example of how important it is to make everyone’s safety a priority in everything we do,” concludes Marchetti. “And just as important, there’s no place for disrespect – treating people the right way is the only way to work.”
