Delta Retiring Its Branded Pretzels & Nuts In Favor Of Upgraded Free Snack Options

It looks like Delta Air Lines has been busy in the kitchen: a day after announcing it was testing free meals in economy class on some transcontinental flights, the carrier is making yet another change to complimentary onboard offerings.

Delta is doing away with its branded packages of peanuts and pretzels in economy class as of Dec. 14, and will instead offer an “improved lineup” including Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels, Squirrel Brand Honey Roasted peanuts, and NatureBox Apple Cinnamon Yogurt Bars. Delta’s branded Biscoff cookies will remain on the menu.

The upgraded free snacks will be available on any flight over 250 miles. If you’re on a shorter flight in North America, you’ll receive either Biscoff cookies or Snyder’s pretzels. Previously, travelers only had one choice on those flights.

Portions will also be larger, Delta says, adding that it will refresh its snacks more frequently in the future based on direct customer feedback. But yeah, sorry about those nuts.

“We know our customers love pretzels and nuts, but we also know they crave more choices and larger portions which is why we’re upgrading their snacking options on board,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s Senior Vice President – In-Flight Service.

Snacks are all the rage again for airlines trying to make fee-addled customers happy:

United Airlines just brought free snacks back to economy class last December, while American Airlines said in February this year that it would bring complimentary gnosis and meals on some flights.
